Appointment-based care for minor cuts and scrapes.
About Cut Doc
Cut Doc was created by the doctors at The Minor Illness & Injury Clinic in collaboration with the founders of QDoc virtual healthcare to address a growing need for prompt, expert care for minor cuts and injuries in Winnipeg.
When people get injured, there are many factors that determine where the best place for treatment should be.
Sometimes cuts and related injuries can be quite serious and require a visit to the Emergency room. However, much of the time these injuries are not life or limb threatening and are considered a lower priority for a busy Emergency room – they are not considered to be serious enough to take priority over more seriously ill or injured patients. This is the way that Emergency rooms have to operate in order to ensure that those who are most in need of care get it when they need it most.
As with most lower priority concerns, patients often face long waits in busy emergency rooms for minor cuts that likely only require simple closure with either stitches or glue.
Our mission is to change how people injured with minor cuts and scrapes experience healthcare.
How can Cut Doc help you?
If you or your loved one has suffered a cut or scrape that you think might need medical attention, we want to help.
1.
When you click on the “Book Now” link below, you will be redirected from this website to our virtual health care partner QDoc. Once you have registered, select the option “Laceration” to be assessed by either a Physician or Nurse Practitioner for assessment of your wound. They will assess the injury by looking at photos or video and will ask some critically important questions to determine the best course of action for each patient.
2.
If the wound is very minor, the QDoc clinician will provide treatment advice so that you can manage the injury safely and effectively at home.
3.
If the wound is significant, the QDoc clinician will provide you with instructions to attend the nearest Emergency room or Urgent care. In critical situations, they may even advise you to call an ambulance.
4.
If the wound is serious enough to require medical attention but not so significant so as to require a trip to the Emergency Room or Urgent Care, then the QDoc clinician will activate the Cut Doc service and speak with one of our on-call physicians about your injury.
5.
After the Cut Doc consultation, the QDoc clinician will provide you with an appointment date and time to have an in-person assessment for repair of your injury. They will also provide you with some instructions on how to take care of your wound while you await your-person visit.
6.
Once at your appointment, one of our Emergency Room trained physicians will assess your injury and provide recommendations for appropriate treatment options. These might include the use of sutures (stitches using a needle and thread-like material), staples (specialty medical staples for skin closure) or even skin glue,
